Animal Lifeline of Iowa, Inc. is a no-kill cat rescue located in Carlisle, Iowa, in Polk County, about 7 miles northwest of Des Moines — a county that is also home to 12 other animal shelters and rescues. Founded in 1986, Animal Lifeline of Iowa is Central Iowa's only shelter focused specifically on special needs cats and dogs, taking in animals that are disabled, pregnant or nursing, orphaned, injured, abused, or living with ongoing medical conditions. Rather than euthanizing animals based on length of stay, the organization rehabilitates these higher-risk pets and works to place them in permanent, loving homes, with all animals receiving full veterinary care, spay/neuter, and microchipping before adoption.
