Adoption Process
To begin the adoption process, familiarize yourself with our adoption rules and requirements. After understanding these guidelines, you will need to complete an application and provide references for verification. Following this, you are welcome to visit and meet the animals available for adoption. If all qualifications are met, our Board of Directors will make a decision regarding the best placement for the pet, especially in cases with multiple applicants, as placements are not based on a first-come, first-served basis. Both the adopter and the organization will then complete a comprehensive adoption agreement, which is often tailored to the specific needs of the pet.

PA Racehorse Rehoming, Rehabilitation & Rescue in Ocala, FL
In 2012, PARR was established as a simple platform to showcase photos and information about ex-racehorses at local racetracks. The initiative quickly gained traction, successfully rehoming over 200 horses. Mandy, the founder, did not anticipate the rapid growth and impact of PARR. Following the launch of PARR's Facebook page, the team began to explore future directions for the organization. Recognizing the potential for greater impact, they sought to expand their efforts beyond what they could achieve individually, as many team members were personally funding the care of these horses while managing full-time jobs. The demands of running such a program often rivaled that of a full-time position, leading to the decision to enhance organizational productivity and efficiency. Under the leadership of Dr. Kathryn Papp DVM from Hillcrest Meadow Equine, PARR applied for and received 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, officially establishing itself as a charity dedicated to the rehoming, rehabilitation, and rescue of off-track thoroughbred racehorses, as well as other animals in need. The organization is now formally known as "PA Racehorse Rehoming Rehabilitation & Rescue," though it continues to be referred to as "PARR" for convenience. Dr. Papp personally finances expenses not covered by donations, demonstrating her commitment to the cause, often at great personal sacrifice. The PARR team consists of dedicated horsemen with extensive experience in the care, training, and rehabilitation of racehorses, all of whom volunteer their time and skills while balancing full-time careers. Their commitment to helping ex-racehorses is evident, particularly as they receive inquiries from members of the U.S. eventing team seeking potential show horse prospects. The team's diverse backgrounds in various equestrian disciplines and their firsthand experience working with thoroughbreds enrich the program. Donations play a crucial role in PARR's operations, covering essential expenses such as board, feed, veterinary care, and training. The growth of PARR directly correlates with its ability to assist more horses. Currently, PARR operates from a main farm that provides stalls for its horses, along with several foster farms during the transition period between the racetrack and new homes. These partnerships with farm owners allow for the timely relocation of horses, ensuring they have a safe place to stay while awaiting adoption. Some horses benefit from additional training during their time in the program. PARR is actively developing sponsorship opportunities, fundraising events, and strategies for continued growth and improvement. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization since 2013, PARR's mission is to provide aftercare for thoroughbreds that have raced or been trained to race, as well as care for other animals in need. PARR offers potential adopters the unique opportunity to select a horse that aligns with their goals through a comprehensive assessment and rehabilitation program. Occasionally, PARR also accepts other breeds and species and provides lifetime sanctuary for a limited number of select animals. Every animal that enters the program is guaranteed a safe and loving home.
