The Greater New Haven Cat Project, Inc. is a cat rescue based in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, and one of 27 other animal shelters and rescues located in the county. Founded in 1996 out of grassroots feral cat feeding efforts dating back to 1993, GNHCP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of stray, abandoned, and feral cats in the Greater New Haven area through trap/neuter/return (TNR), low-cost spay/neuter services, foster care, and adoptions. Since 1996 the organization has assisted over 13,700 cats, roughly split between tame and feral, across 84 towns, with New Haven itself accounting for the largest share. In fall 2025 GNHCP relocated its center to Northford, about 8 miles west of New Haven, where it continues its foster-based adoption program and community outreach.

Applicants complete an online adoption screening form, wait up to 14 days for a volunteer response, provide vet permission for a reference check, then attend an in-person appointment to meet cats before finalizing adoption and paying a fee ($250 for adult cats, $275 for kittens).
