Adoption Process

Applicants interested in adopting a pet must complete an application at www.adoptapitrescue.org/apply. We thoroughly screen all applications, and approved applicants will undergo a veterinary and landlord verification process. It is required that all pets currently in the home are spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations, as well as on year-round heartworm prevention. Non-homeowners must obtain permission from their landlord to keep a dog. Once an application is approved, we will arrange a home visit. During this visit, an adoption representative will bring the dog to the applicant's home to assess compatibility with the family and any existing pets, as well as to ensure that the environment is safe for the dog. If all parties agree that the dog is a suitable match, a contract will be signed, the adoption fee will be collected, and the family may take the dog home, unless alternative arrangements have been made. The standard adoption fees are $175 for adult dogs and $200 for puppies, although we reserve the right to adjust fees for "designer" breeds. All dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations appropriate for their age, heartworm tested, and on heartworm prevention at the time of adoption. Each dog has been examined by our veterinarian and has received a clean bill of health prior to adoption.

Service Areas

We primarily serve the Dayton, Ohio area but are also available for adoptions within a two-hour radius of Dayton.

Adopt A Pit Rescue Inc in Germantown, OH

Adopt a Pit Rescue, Inc. is the largest Pit Bull rescue organization in the Miami Valley. We are dedicated to saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs from local kill shelters. When space permits, we also accept owner surrenders and lost dogs rescued by community members. Established in 2013 with the mission to rescue and rehabilitate Pit Bulls and other bully breeds, we have successfully placed over 1,600 dogs into loving homes and currently have approximately 115 adoptable dogs in more than 60 foster homes. Most of our dogs come from high-kill shelters, where they face imminent euthanasia. We prioritize those dogs labeled as "unadoptable" due to injuries, illness, fearfulness, or breed discrimination. While we primarily focus on our local animal shelter, we are willing to transport dogs from other counties when we have available foster homes. We are currently the only rescue organization pulling Pit Bulls from our local shelter. Our Board of Directors consists of two dedicated women who volunteer their time and resources without compensation. They each care for a household of challenging dogs that may not find placement elsewhere, working tirelessly to correct behavioral issues and prepare them for their forever homes. We are supported by a network of committed volunteers who assist with fostering, transporting, facilitating adoptions, managing our rescue sites, and performing all necessary tasks to ensure the organization operates smoothly. Our work relies on donations and adoption fees to cover the needs of our dogs.
