Adopting from Barktown Rescue
Adoption process
To begin the adoption process, we request that an application be completed for the animal of interest. Once the application is approved, we will arrange a meeting with the animal, which will have already received necessary veterinary care such as spaying or neutering, vaccinations, and heartworm testing. The adoption fee starts at $125, and a contract must be signed at the time of adoption.

- We primarily source animals from the Nelson County animal shelter, which is a high-kill facility that does not engage in adoptions. Animals surrendered by owners may be euthanized within a day, while strays are typically euthanized within five days. In terms of adoptions, we have successfully placed animals in homes across the country.
