About this shelter

Have A Heart Dog Rescue in Elwood, IL

Have A Heart Dog Rescue & Adoption is a licensed 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to rescuing companion animals that are at risk of euthanasia in high-kill shelters. We rescue these animals from urgent situations and provide them with loving foster homes until we can find them permanent homes. Unlike typical rescues, we do not focus on specific breeds or only those dogs that are in high demand. Our mission is to save dogs that are in imminent danger of being euthanized, regardless of their breed or popularity. We prioritize helping those dogs that have been overlooked and truly need our assistance.

Adopting from Have A Heart Dog Rescue

Adoption process

To adopt your new best friend, please follow our straightforward four-step process: First, complete the HAH Adoption Application. Once we receive your application, we will begin processing it and will reach out to you via email or phone. As our team consists of volunteers, we aim to respond within 48 hours, and we appreciate your patience during this time. If your application is approved, we will arrange a home visit. This visit allows you to meet the dog you are interested in adopting. Since we operate as a foster-based rescue without a physical location, it is important for us to respect the privacy of our foster families. Finally, after the home visit, you will need to accept the Have A Heart adoption contract to finalize the adoption of your new best friend.
