Adoption Process

We do facilitate adoptions outside of Illinois; however, all applicants, all dogs, and everyone residing in the home must come to meet the dog and transport it home. This policy is non-negotiable. Our organization is based in Saint Charles, Illinois, and all available dogs are in foster homes throughout the state. It is essential that everyone in your household agrees to the adoption. You must also obtain any necessary approvals from your landlord or homeowner association. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and must complete the adoption approval process through our organization before meeting any adoptable dogs. All resident dogs in the home must be spayed or neutered by six months of age. If a resident dog has a medical condition that prevents spaying or neutering, a note from a veterinarian is required. Additionally, all resident dogs must be up to date on the following: - Rabies vaccine - DHLPP vaccine - Monthly flea and tick prevention - Monthly heartworm prevention Exceptions may be made at the discretion of our organization. We require all adopters to enroll their newly adopted pet in a six-week basic training course, and proof of enrollment and completion must be provided. To begin the adoption process, please fill out and submit our adoption application. Once received, a volunteer from our applications team will contact you to confirm that your application is being processed. Our Adoption Team will conduct a personal phone interview, check your veterinary and personal references, and email you instructions for completing a virtual home check. The application process typically takes about 5 to 7 days from start to finish. Please be patient, as our team consists of volunteers and delays may occur. Once your application is reviewed and approved, you will receive an approval email with further instructions on the next steps for adopting from our organization. All adoptable dogs from Tiny N Tall Rescue will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption, unless they are too young or have health issues; in such cases, a spay/neuter contract will be provided. Dogs will also be up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations, microchipped with a tag and free lifetime registration, tested for heartworm and tick-borne diseases, and provided with a new collar and leash. Additionally, adopters will receive a "Welcome to your New Home" reusable bag containing a supply of the dog's current food to aid in the transition, a Kong, a bag of treats, any favorite toys from their foster care, 30 days of free pet insurance, and an adoption information packet to facilitate a smooth transition into their new home. We request that you take your new pet to your family veterinarian within two weeks (10 business days) after adoption for an examination.

Tiny N Tall Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization run by volunteers committed to providing temporary shelter, veterinary care, and behavioral support for small and giant breed dogs as they transition to carefully selected homes. We focus on rescuing tiny breeds weighing under 25 pounds as well as giant breeds. Our rescue operates entirely through a foster-based system and relies solely on donations. We ensure that Tiny and Giant breed dogs receive medical care, shelter, nourishment, and plenty of love. Our dedicated team of foster homes and volunteers makes this mission possible. Founded in 2017 by Melissa Young and Niccalina Santilli, Tiny N Tall Rescue was created out of a shared passion for both tiny dogs and Great Danes. Recognizing the need for a rescue specifically for small and large breeds, they committed themselves to providing medical care, shelter, and love to these dogs until they find their forever homes.
