Adoption Process

Our adoption process involves submitting an application, participating in an interview, and undergoing a home visit. The adoption fee is a donation of the adopter's choice to Hospice Hearts, with a minimum contribution of $75. We conduct thorough screenings of prospective adopting homes to ensure that they are suitable for our animals. The adoption application process may take up to an hour and includes a detailed review of your application. We strongly encourage all household members to be present during the meet and greet visit as well as the final adoption to ensure that the pet is a good match for the entire household. We will verify residency requirements. It is important to provide truthful responses so that the Adoption Counselor can assist you in finding the best pet for your family. Any false information may result in the nullification of your application and contract. All application questions are mandatory and must be answered. The primary responsibility of the Adoption Counselor is to place pets in homes that meet their specific needs. We encourage applicants to review all available animals and to ask questions to help determine which pet would be the best fit for their home. Please be aware that Hospice Hearts is an all-volunteer organization, and we appreciate your respectful interaction with our team. Please note that our pets and adoptions come with a "Satisfaction Guaranteed" policy. We recognize that not every animal is compatible with every family or living situation. If necessary, adopted animals can be returned to Hospice Hearts for a full refund of the adoption donation, upon request. Returning an animal does not prevent future adoptions, and we will assist in finding a more suitable match for you and your family. Additionally, we are available to answer any questions or address concerns regarding your adopted animal at any time to help keep them in your home if possible. The adoption fee for a Hospice Hearts animal is a minimum donation of $75. In the adoption application, please provide the following information: - Name of Animal - Your Name (First and Last) - Your Date of Birth - Marital Status - Phone Number - Email Address - Address (including city, state/province, postal code, and country) In the "Adoption Interests" section, please explain your motivation for adopting this animal and share any concerns you may have about this or any animal. Additionally, describe the qualities you are seeking in a new companion to help us facilitate a better match. In the "Background Information" section, please indicate the number of adults and children in your household, the ages of the children, whether you own or rent your home, if your home is smoke-free, and your employment status. In the "Matching the Right Pet" section, indicate your interest in adopting a dog, cat, or other species, preferred age range, where the animal will primarily be kept, desired activity level, willingness to care for animals with specialized diets, and your readiness to spend on extensive veterinary care if necessary. In the "Pet History" section, please indicate if you currently have pets, what food you feed them, and any past pets you have owned in the last five years, including their outcomes. Lastly, please confirm that all information provided in the application is complete and accurate to the best of your knowledge. You acknowledge that the information may be subject to verification and that you assume any risk of injury incurred while viewing animals cared for by Hospice Hearts. Please provide your signature and the date to complete your application.
