The Humane Society of McCormick County is a no-kill animal rescue dedicated to assisting homeless cats and dogs in the area. Our mission is to help these animals find loving homes. We provide low-cost spaying and neutering services for any cat or dog in McCormick County, and we operate a progressive trap-neuter-return (TNR) program, monitoring and feeding several community cat colonies daily. Our organization is fully funded through private donations, grants, and fundraising efforts, with all proceeds directed towards animal care, as we are entirely staffed by volunteers. As there are no city or county-run shelters in the county, we are the primary resource for addressing the needs of homeless pets. We are committed to caring for dogs and cats that would otherwise have nowhere to go.

Adoption process

Our adoption process begins with an interview to understand the type of cat or dog the potential adopter is seeking, as well as their lifestyle and expectations. After this initial discussion, we arrange a meet and greet, which can take place at the shelter, a pet store, or the adopter's home. Following the meet and greet, the adopter will complete an adoption contract. We also offer and encourage potential adopters to take the dog or cat home on a foster-to-adopt basis for a few weeks before finalizing the adoption. The adoption fee is $65 for cats and $125 for dogs, which includes spaying or neutering and vaccinations. For dogs, the fee also covers a microchip, while cats can be microchipped upon request.
