Adoption Process

All cats and kittens must be examined by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, and tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) prior to adoption. We facilitate adoptions through PetSmart, PetSense, and foster homes. The adoption fee is $75 for kittens and $55 for older cats. A contract must be signed, which includes provisions against declawing and requires that cats be kept indoors. Additionally, the contract states that if the adoption does not work out for any reason, we will always accept the cat back without question.

Service Areas

We serve Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Little River, the Grand Strand area in Horry County, South Carolina, and parts of Brunswick County, North Carolina.

Safe Haven 4 Cats SC in North Myrtle Beach, SC

Safe Haven 4 Cats SC is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization operating on a no-kill policy and run entirely by volunteers. Our mission is to "Help Stop the Endless Cycle" of unwanted cats in Horry County, addressing the needs of feral, homeless, abandoned, abused, and neglected cats. We care for adoptable cats and kittens by providing spay/neuter services, necessary veterinary care, and nurturing them until they find loving forever homes. We actively support Trap-Neuter-Release Feed (TNRF) programs and collaborate with local veterinarians to offer low-cost spay/neuter services to cat owners facing financial difficulties. Our organization relies solely on public donations, and we organize fundraising events to enhance the quality of life for all cats. Our volunteers work to educate the community about the importance of spaying and neutering to reduce the number of cats and kittens euthanized daily. We offer a low-cost spay/neuter program for both feral and friendly cats, with fees of $45 for males and $55 for females. This service also includes rabies vaccinations, worming, and flea treatment. Testing for feline leukemia (FELV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is available at an additional cost and is recommended but not mandatory. Feral cats are ear-tipped for identification and returned to their colonies at no extra charge. Cats suitable for adoption undergo health assessments, including testing for FELV and FIV, worming, flea treatment, spaying/neutering, and distemper vaccinations, ensuring they are healthy and socialized. We also offer assistance in trapping feral cats by providing traps and guidance. We provide foster homes for friendly, domesticated cats and kittens until they are adopted. Our volunteers trap and transport feral cats to low-cost spay/neuter clinics for sterilization and rabies vaccinations, with feral cats being returned to their colonies afterward. We monitor feral colonies daily, supplying fresh food and water to maintain their health. Feral kittens are fostered in loving homes to prepare them for adoption. In cases where cats face dangerous or abusive situations, we relocate them to safe environments after providing necessary veterinary care. Safe Haven 4 Cats SC is committed to protecting the feline population in Horry County. Our goals include reducing the number of unwanted cats and kittens through adoptions and creating a safe haven for those that are homeless or unadoptable, allowing them to live their remaining years in a secure environment. With the growth of our membership and volunteer base, we are confident in our ability to positively impact the lives of cats and kittens in our community. I am Virginia Talley, one of the executive officers of Safe Haven 4 Cats SC.
