Adoption Process

To apply for the adoption of one of our dogs, please complete the application form. Once your application is submitted, we will contact you to schedule a home visit. A completed application is required before arranging a meet and greet with the dog. The adoption fee is $150. If you reside outside our service area, you will be responsible for transportation and any associated costs. All our dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and heartworm prevention, and have been dewormed and microchipped. You will also be responsible for the transfer of the microchip and any related fees. Dogs rescued through our HeartBeat program have received heartworm treatment and are heartworm negative. All adopters are required to sign a contract.

Shelter Animal Advocates is dedicated to rescuing dogs from Aiken County and other shelters across our state. We frequently assist overwhelmed rescue organizations and shelters by fostering dogs, preparing them for adoption through spaying, neutering, and addressing their medical needs. We provide care for these animals until they can be adopted or transferred to a no-kill rescue. Through our HeartBeat Campaign, we offer heartworm treatment for dogs rescued from the Aiken County shelter who are heartworm positive. This treatment process typically takes about four months to complete. Many of the dogs available for adoption have no other options; they often include bully mixes that are overlooked by other rescues due to the lengthy commitment required for fostering. As a result, these dogs may wait for months to find their forever homes. We kindly ask for your support through donations so we can continue our vital work in our community.
