The Aiken County Animal Shelter, located at 333 Wire Road in Aiken, South Carolina, is supported by the nonprofit Friends of the Animal Shelter – Aiken County (FOTAS), a volunteer 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2009 to supplement the shelter's resources in caring for the thousands of homeless and abandoned dogs and cats it takes in each year. The shelter and FOTAS work together to promote animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, and the elimination of euthanasia for all adoptable animals, offering programs such as foster care, Doggie Days Out, and community spay/neuter services. All adoptable animals are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before going home with new owners. Situated in Aiken County about 20 miles southwest of Augusta, GA, the shelter is one of four animal shelters and rescues serving Aiken County, South Carolina.
