MAMAS is a non-profit organization designated as a 501(c)(3) that aims to assist animals in finding loving homes in and around Bamberg County, South Carolina. We operate as a no-kill shelter, meaning that no adoptable dog is euthanized. Given the challenges of being in a low-income area, we face significant funding issues and rely heavily on donations to support our mission. We believe every dog deserves a chance, and we accept all dogs that are not aggressive towards people or other dogs, including those that are injured or sick, provided they can find comfort and joy in human interaction. Our priority is to ensure the safety and happiness of the animals in our care, serving as a transitional environment until they are placed in permanent, loving homes. Additionally, we actively promote community education on responsible pet ownership whenever possible.

Adoption process

Adoption fees vary based on the dog, but are generally set at a specific amount. Prospective adopters must complete an application to assess compatibility and demonstrate responsible prior pet ownership. A home visit may be necessary as part of the process. A contract must be signed upon adoption. Requirements for adopting a dog include ensuring that the dog is spayed or neutered, kept on heartworm preventative, and that if the dog ever needs to be re-homed, it must be returned to us.
