Adoption Process

Our adoption process begins with the completion of an application, which requires references from a veterinarian and two non-relative individuals. Once the application is submitted, we place a 24-hour hold to allow an ARC volunteer to contact the references and address any questions regarding the potential adopter. At this stage, a home visit may also be arranged. If the applicant is approved, they will be required to sign a contract. An adoption fee is applicable, but it may be waived in special circumstances. Should the adopter be unable to care for the pet in the future, the animal must be returned to ARC.

The organization primarily serves the Central Midlands, including Lexington and Richland counties, but also offers services statewide.

Our team consists of individuals who have volunteered with various rescue organizations and have dedicated years to personal rescue efforts. We operate on a foster-based model, as we believe that smaller, foster-based rescues play a vital role in the animal rescue and shelter community. Our commitment to rescue work stems from our conviction that we cannot ignore the animals in need that we encounter.
