Adoption Process

Each dog we rescue and prepare for adoption is thoroughly screened for behavioral issues and is up to date on vaccinations. They are also spayed or neutered and microchipped prior to finding their forever home. Our adoption process consists of four steps: 1. Vet reference check 2. Home visit 3. Signing of an adoption contract 4. An adoption donation of $125

Cross My Heart Dog Rescue in Vestavia, AL

Cross My Heart is dedicated to reducing the overcrowding of animal shelters in the greater Birmingham area of Alabama, where many innocent dogs face euthanasia to accommodate incoming strays. Our primary focus is on rescuing dogs on death row in local shelters. Each volunteer is committed to rescuing, providing sanctuary, and ultimately re-homing these abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs. Additionally, we occasionally offer temporary care for dogs belonging to owners who are facing difficult circumstances that prevent them from caring for their pets. We fulfill our mission by utilizing foster homes throughout the greater Birmingham area, where foster families care for dogs until they find permanent homes. This care includes necessary medical treatment, de-worming, vaccinations, and spaying or neutering, which is performed only when deemed safe by our veterinarian. When possible, we also provide in-house crate training and basic obedience training. Furthermore, we assess each dog's temperament and personality to ensure they are placed in the most suitable family or home.
