Adoption Process

The adoption donation fee is $250 for adult dogs and $300 for puppies. Our application process is thorough and includes checks of veterinary references, landlord references, and personal references. Additionally, a home visit is required, along with discussions between potential adopters and foster parents. To qualify for adoption, individuals must be at least 21 years old and must not have a history of neglect or abuse toward animals.

Chihuahua Rescue & Transport in Durham, NC

Chihuahua Rescue & Transport (CRT) is a foster-based rescue organization dedicated to finding approved homes for Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes. We do not operate a physical shelter; instead, we rely on a network of foster homes. Our organization is governed by a Board of Directors that includes representatives from our three regions: Dallas Fort Worth, the Midwest, and the Southeast. Since our founding in 1996, we have successfully placed thousands of Chihuahuas and Chihuahua mixes in loving homes. Our mission includes raising public awareness about issues such as overpopulation, abuse, neglect, the importance of spaying and neutering, and the alarming rates of abandonment and euthanasia among Chihuahuas. To ensure the best fit for our dogs, CRT requires each adopter to complete an application, undergo a veterinarian check, provide references, and participate in a home visit.
