Adoption Process

All adoption processes start with a trial period of a minimum of two weeks before finalizing the adoption. Individuals interested in adopting must complete an online application, which requires approval from our adoption coordinator. The process includes checking references and veterinary records. Before the trial adoption, all animals must be current on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, and microchipped. The adoption fee is $250 for dogs and $115 for cats.

Best Friend Pet Adoption in Cary, NC

Best Friend Pet Adoption (BFPA) is a no-kill animal rescue organization located in central North Carolina. Operating without a physical building, office, or shelter, BFPA functions entirely as a foster network dedicated to finding homes for dogs and cats in need. Our operations are primarily funded through individual donations, as we do not receive public funding. Our mission is to provide medical assistance, foster homes, and adoption services for animals that have been lost, abandoned, abused, or neglected in Wake County and surrounding areas. We aim to educate society on the importance of valuing and cherishing every life, emphasizing the link between animal welfare and human responsibility. Most of the animals we rescue require urgent medical care. BFPA is committed to never turning away or euthanizing any animal due to the costs associated with restoring their health. Each animal undergoes a temperament evaluation, veterinary examination, vaccinations, and, when appropriate, microchipping and sterilization. Cats and dogs receive monthly flea and tick prevention, while dogs also receive heartworm prevention. The essential services we provide include loving care and a safe environment—elements that many of these animals have never known. Our rescued cats and dogs are placed in volunteer foster homes until we can find them permanent, loving families. We strive to match these animals with individuals, couples, or families who recognize that cats and dogs deserve to be integral members of the household. Our goal is to ensure that these animals never face abandonment or neglect again. Since our inception, BFPA has successfully rescued and placed over 2,500 cats and dogs into forever homes. Founded in 1998 by two women from the Raleigh area who previously volunteered with other animal rescues in the Triangle, BFPA has grown to include over 225 dedicated volunteers. BFPA gained 501(c)(3) status in 1999.
