Wilson County Humane Society in Wilson, NC

We operate without a permanent office and rely on volunteers who foster dogs and cats until they can be placed in permanent homes. If animals cannot be placed, they often remain with their foster caregivers, who usually have other pets of their own. As a non-profit organization, we depend on donations and fundraising activities to support our mission. We host adoption events twice or more each month, though the majority of our successful adoptions occur through Petfinder. When we receive puppies and kittens from private individuals, we ensure that the mother is spayed and the father is neutered, if he is available. Additionally, we also rescue animals from the local animal shelter.

Adoption process

We offer an online application process for prospective adopters. When a family expresses interest in a specific pet they have seen on Petfinder, we provide them with the application. After we receive the completed application, we conduct a veterinary reference check and review the applicant's responses, paying particular attention to their plans for the pet's living situation and the number of animals they currently have. Our goal is to find the best match between our pets and the families. Occasionally, an application may be strong overall but not suitable for the specific animal requested. Our adoption fees range from $50 to $200, depending on the medical needs of the pet. While we typically aim to make a small profit on puppies, we do not usually do so for other animals.
