Safe Haven Humane Society is a county-wide humane society serving Jo Daviess County from its shelter in Elizabeth, Illinois, about 60 miles south of Davenport, Iowa. Supported entirely by community donations and volunteers, Safe Haven rescues all breeds of cats and dogs and places no time limit on an animal's length of stay once accepted into its adoption program. Its mission is to provide temporary shelter and treatment for adoptable cats and dogs, place them in suitable homes, promote humane treatment of animals, and encourage spay/neuter programs to reduce pet overpopulation in the county. The shelter is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
