Forest Animal Rescue is a rescue organization based in Silver Springs, Florida, located in Marion County, roughly 50 miles southeast of Orlando, where four other animal shelters and rescues also operate. Founded in 1998, it works as a wild animal sanctuary and educational facility, partnering with licensed wildlife rehabilitators across Florida to provide safe, protected land where native wildlife can be released and re-acclimate to life in the wild. The organization also coordinates the rescue of captive wild animals confiscated by authorities, used in research, or abandoned, networking with other accredited sanctuaries to ensure their lifelong care, and it rehabilitates orphaned or injured wild black bear cubs for eventual release with minimal human interaction. Legally known as Peace River Refuge & Ranch, Inc., doing business as Forest Animal Rescue, it is a Florida nonprofit and 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable corporation.
