Adoption Process
To begin the adoption process, please complete our adoption application. This form allows us to learn more about you and your lifestyle. Next, you will have an interview with a representative from New Leash On Life. Following the interview, we conduct a Home Check to ensure that your home is a safe environment for the animal. Once these steps are completed, you will need to sign an Adoption Contract. An adoption donation of $250 or more is also required, which is tax deductible. Please note that there may be an additional fee for dogs that have already completed obedience training. Upon completion of these steps, you can enjoy a happy life with your new companion. Our pets are typically up to date on all vaccinations and have been spayed or neutered, although puppies may not have received their full set of vaccinations.

New Leash On Life Animal Rescue in Newhall, CA
After observing the decline of the shelter system and witnessing the tragic loss of countless pets, a vision for improvement began to take shape. What started as a dream soon evolved into a structured plan for implementation, culminating in a strategy aimed at significantly improving the inhumane conditions faced by these animals. In 1997, New Leash On Life Animal Rescue was established by Bobby and Kelly Dorafshar. Since its founding, New Leash On Life has facilitated the spaying and neutering of thousands of pets, rescued and placed over 3,000 dogs, and offered free educational seminars at local shelters. The organization prioritizes the rescue of "hard to place" animals that require medical care or special attention. Additionally, it founded the P.E.T.s program (Pet Educational Trainers) and co-founded Partners for Life, which has saved hundreds of animals at the East Valley Animal Shelter. In March 2002, a lease was secured for thirteen acres in the Santa Clarita Valley to create the E.R.A Center (Education, Rehabilitation, and Adoption). This facility serves as a safe haven for companion animals and a learning resource for both children and adults, supporting New Leash On Life’s mission to transform Los Angeles into a no-kill city. Recently, we have launched the Lend a Paw program, which rescues dogs from shelters and trains them as assistance and therapy dogs for individuals and children in need. Alongside this initiative, we are implementing a comprehensive training program for all rescues. Our objective is to enroll each dog in an obedience training course before adoption. While a select few may be designated for the Lend a Paw program, most will be placed in loving homes immediately. This training enhances the likelihood of developing strong bonds between the dogs and their adoptive families. Moreover, our dogs benefit from the attention of training volunteers while awaiting their new homes.
