Los Angeles County Animal Control operates as the Los Angeles County Department of Animal Care and Control, serving Long Beach, California and the surrounding Los Angeles County area through a network of Animal Care Centers located in Agoura, Baldwin Park, Santa Clarita Valley/Castaic, Carson/Gardena, Downey, Lancaster, and Palmdale. The department cares for animals available for adoption, runs neighborhood field services, pet licensing, spay and neuter, vaccination, and microchip programs, and responds to emergencies and animal cruelty reports. It is supported by the independent Los Angeles County Animal Care Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that funds spay/neuter services, medical care, pet-retention vouchers, disaster response, and behavior and enrichment programs for animals in its care. Regular hours are Monday through Thursday, 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, and 124 other animal shelters and rescues are also located within Los Angeles County, roughly 15 miles north of Los Angeles.

Adoption process

Visit any of the seven Animal Care Centers during open hours (Monday–Saturday, 11am–5pm) to view Ready to Go Home (RTGH) animals, which are already spayed/neutered and microchipped; these animals are adopted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Service area: Los Angeles County (including Agoura Hills, Baldwin Park, Santa Clarita Valley/Castaic, Carson/Gardena, Downey, Lancaster, and Palmdale service areas; note Azusa and Baldwin Park cities are now served by Inland Valley Humane Society)
