Known as the Pacific Animal Welfare Society, it was founded in 2003 by Dorothy "Louise" Shirey, who was dedicated to caring for and rehoming abandoned and displaced animals. The shelter finds homes for dogs and cats, relies heavily on volunteers, donors, and foster families to support its work, and also offers services such as animal licensing and a vaccine clinic. It's open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, and it is one of 41 animal shelters and rescues serving San Diego County.
