Applicants fill out an online application and complete a mandatory third-party background check, then the shelter reviews and contacts them; applicants visit the shelter to meet cats, the chosen cat gets a check-up, and then they can take the cat home.

Hermitage Cat Shelter in Tucson, AZ

Hermitage Cat Shelter is a cage-free, no-kill cat rescue located about 6 miles west of Tucson, Arizona, in Pima County, where it operates alongside 32 other animal shelters and rescues in the county. Founded in 1965, it was the first no-kill animal shelter in Arizona and, since 2013, has been the state's only accredited cat sanctuary through the American Sanctuary Association. Its 9,000-square-foot facility houses more than 300 cats at a time, including cats with FIV and FeLV, and the shelter rescues over 700 cats annually while providing lifelong care for those who aren't quickly adopted. The shelter is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, with adoptions closing at 4:30 pm and intakes handled by appointment only.
