Virginia Greyhound Adoption in Spotsylvania, VA
Virginia Greyhound Adoption (VAGA) is based in Spotsylvania, Virginia, in Spotsylvania County, about 45 miles south of Richmond, and shares the county with three other animal shelters and rescues. VAGA specializes in rescuing and rehoming retired racing greyhounds, and for the past seven years has partnered with GPA-Greater Orlando, renting kennel crates there and covering the full veterinary, food, medication, and transport costs for greyhounds awaiting adoption. The organization notes that transporting each dog to Virginia can cost up to $75, and that veterinary care such as spay/neuter surgery, dental work, and vaccinations often runs $200 to $300 or more per dog, expenses that adoption fees alone do not cover. VAGA operates as a nonprofit, holding a federal tax ID and participating in the Combined Federal Campaign, relying heavily on donations to sustain its rescue work.
