Adoption Process

The adoption process begins with a written application. Before we can discuss specific adoption opportunities, we require a completed questionnaire submitted by an adult. As part of our process, we conduct a veterinary reference check, a telephone interview, and a home visit prior to finalizing any adoption. The adoption fee is $275, or $350 for dogs under one year old. A non-transferable contract will be signed at the time of adoption. We have specific requirements for potential adopters. We do not place animals with individuals or families that have small children under the age of eight. Additionally, adopters must reside within 100 miles of Suffolk, VA. A home check will be conducted before adoption, and follow-up visits will take place afterwards to ensure a successful match and the well-being of both the dog and the adopters. We do not approve adoptions for individuals who are away from home all day, as this can lead to dissatisfaction for both the adopters and the dogs, who may experience fear, loneliness, and boredom. In most cases, a fenced yard will be required for adoption.
