Southeastern Virginia Golden Retriever Rescue, Education, and Training, Inc. (SEVA GRREAT) is located in Yorktown, Virginia, in York County, where two other animal shelters or rescues also operate, and sits about 3 miles southwest of Newport News. It is a volunteer-staffed, 501(c)(3) non-profit that rescues abandoned and unwanted Golden Retrievers and places them into approved adoptive homes, having saved more than 2,000 Golden Retrievers since 1990. Dogs coming into the organization's care start out in foster homes, where the focus is on getting them healthy and ready for adoption into loving forever homes. The group also relies heavily on volunteers and members to support its rescue operations across southeastern Virginia.

Adoption process

Applicants submit an online application with a $40 non-refundable fee, then undergo application review, a required home visit (up to 4 weeks to schedule), and if approved are added to a list to be matched with an available Golden Retriever.

Service area: Southeastern Virginia, generally along the I-64 corridor from the Richmond area to the Virginia/North Carolina border (including Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, and surrounding areas)
