Adoption Process

Individuals interested in adopting an animal must first complete an Adopter survey. After the survey is submitted, our adoption team will assist the potential adopter in selecting animals that align with their stated needs and preferences. To proceed with the adoption, a valid picture ID, proof of age, an appropriate form of payment, and a carrier or leash for the new pet are required. Additionally, we offer an interactive Meet Your Match survey online that can be completed before visiting our adoption center.

Richmond SPCA in Richmond, VA

The Richmond SPCA is a non-profit, no-kill humane organization established in 1891. Our mission is grounded in the belief that every life is valuable. As a national leader in humane care and education, we adhere to the no-kill philosophy and are committed to providing exceptional care for animals. We operate independently and are not affiliated with other private animal welfare organizations or SPCAs. However, we collaborate with local municipal agencies to transfer over 70 percent of the homeless pets in our care from various surrounding animal welfare organizations, while the remaining 30 percent come from owner surrenders. Each year, we save the lives of more than 3,000 orphaned dogs and cats. The Richmond SPCA also runs the Clinic for Compassionate Care, a full-service veterinary clinic. Our offerings include a behavior helpline, pet behavior classes, educational programs for children, a pet pantry, an affordable wellness clinic, various volunteer opportunities, pet retention programs, resources for feral cats, and companionship programs.
