Humane Society of Central Vermont in East Montpelier, VT

The Humane Society of Central Vermont has been saving lives for over 50 years from its adoption center at 1589 VT Route 14 South in East Montpelier, Vermont, about 4 miles south of Barre. Located in Washington County, where one other animal shelter or rescue also serves the area, the shelter is open Tuesday through Friday 1:00PM-5:00PM and Saturday 10:00AM-4:00PM. CVHS finds homes for dogs, cats, small animals, and barn cats, transporting pets into Vermont to help meet local demand, and also offers dog training classes taught by qualified trainers. The organization runs on donations and volunteer support, including a foster program and an active Board of Directors dedicated to animal welfare in the community.

Adoption process

Adoptions are done by appointment only: you call or email to discuss an animal with an adoption counselor, complete an adopter survey, meet the animal (in person for dogs, video chat option for cats), and if it's a good match the adoption is completed and the pet goes home that same day.
