Dames For Danes Great Dane Rescue is an all-volunteer, 501(c)(3) rescue organization based in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, in Anderson County, roughly 20 miles southeast of Knoxville—an area also home to 6 other animal shelters and rescues. The organization is dedicated to saving homeless, abused, and neglected Great Danes across Tennessee, Virginia, Kentucky, and Georgia, and it was formerly known as Great Creatures before being renamed when its all-female team of volunteers took over. Its work centers on spay/neuter efforts, public education about the breed, and careful matching of each dog with the right foster or adoptive home, with a special commitment to taking in Danes with serious medical needs, elderly dogs, and those who are deaf or blind. Every dog placed through the rescue is spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and given a full veterinary workup before adoption.
