About this shelter
Going Home Greyhounds in Wexford, PA
Going Home Greyhounds has been bringing retired racing Greyhounds home since 1995, operating out of Wexford, Pennsylvania in Allegheny County, about 15 miles south of Pittsburgh. The organization places its dogs through a network of foster homes rather than a central kennel, and adopted greyhounds typically come to their new owners already spayed or neutered, with a full dental check-up, physical exam, heartworm test, and current inoculations. Going Home Greyhounds is one of 15 animal shelters and rescues serving Allegheny County, and it emphasizes that adopting a greyhound is a life-long commitment, offering resources on breed basics, wellness, and volunteer opportunities to support adopters.

Adoption process
Prospective adopters must submit an application, complete a phone/in-person interview with an adoption counselor, and pass a home inspection (including fencing check and meeting any children, who must be at least 10 years old); once approved, new adopters typically get their dog through a foster period of one to two weeks before bringing it home.
