Founded in December 2003 as a California state nonprofit public benefit corporation, the group rescues, evaluates, and places Australian Shepherds in carefully matched homes, and does not adopt out of state. Each foster dog receives veterinary care including vaccinations, worming, heartworm testing, altering, and microchipping, and the rescue also maintains a sanctuary that provides lifelong care for senior and special-needs Aussies who may not otherwise find adoptive homes. The organization relies on foster homes, volunteers, and donations to sustain its work, including monthly expenses of roughly $4,500–$5,500 beyond veterinary bills.
