Wyandot County Humane Society, Inc. in Upper Sandusky, OH
The Wyandot County Humane Society, Inc. is a humane society located in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, in Wyandot County, about 60 miles north of Toledo, and is the county's only shelter of its kind, with one other animal shelter or rescue also serving the county. Now in its 40th year of operation, WCHS accepts dogs and cats from Wyandot County and animals of other species from anywhere, while also running an equine rescue, a low-cost spay/neuter clinic (HOPE), and a wildlife rehabilitation program. For 37 years the organization maintained an open-door policy and never turned away an animal, but in 2022 it began limiting dog and cat intake to Wyandot County residents due to the overwhelming volume of out-of-county surrenders. The shelter receives no governmental support and is funded almost entirely through donations and volunteer fundraising efforts.
