Adoption Process
The adoption fees for animals are as follows: For dogs, the fees are $225 for those 6 months and under, $125 for ages 7 months to 7 years, and $40.75 for dogs 8 years and older. All dog adoption fees include a microchip and county license. For cats, the fees are $95 for those 6 months and under, $50 for ages 7 months to 7 years, and $5 for cats 8 years and older. Cats that have been in the shelter for over 90 days are available for a price you can determine. The cat adoption fee includes a microchip, and cats must go home in a secure carrier, which can be purchased for $5.00 at Rescue Village. For rabbits, the fees are $40 for those 6 months and under and $30 for rabbits 7 months and older. You can adopt a pair of rabbits for the price of one. Other animals have the following fees: ferrets are $30, guinea pigs and hamsters are $20, birds are $25, potbelly pigs can cost up to $200, horses can cost up to $500, and goats are $50. Upon entering, you can explore the adoption floors and view all animals available for adoption. If you find an animal you are interested in or have questions, please notify the Receptionist and fill out a profile to provide insight into your lifestyle and the type of pet you are seeking. An Adoption Counselor will review your profile with you to ensure that the animal you have chosen is a suitable match for you and your household. Once approved, you and your family will meet the animal in a designated get-acquainted room, where you can interact with the animal and receive guidance on how to transition your new pet into your home. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have during this time. If you are adopting a dog and already have another dog at home, a pet-to-pet visit may be necessary to ensure compatibility. This visit can be arranged after you fill out a profile and meet with the animal alongside an Adoption Counselor. For cat adoptions, you must bring a secure carrier from home or purchase a cat box carrier for $5.00 to ensure safe transport. If you are renting, landlord approval is required before bringing an animal home, and we may need to contact your landlord in some cases. Once you decide to adopt a pet, we will complete the necessary paperwork, which includes an Adoption Agreement, a copy of the animal's medical records, and a coupon for a free initial veterinarian visit within three weeks at a participating veterinary clinic. Please note that adoptions stop 45 minutes before closing.
