Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process, interested individuals are required to complete a form and then have the opportunity to explore the shelter and identify a dog that appeals to them. Following a discussion with the potential adopter to assess compatibility, if the match is deemed suitable, the adopter will pay the adoption fee. The dog will remain at the shelter until it has been spayed or neutered, after which the adopter can arrange to pick up their new pet.

Fayette County Dog Shelter in Washington Courthouse, OH

We are the county shelter, staffed by three dog wardens who respond to reports of stray and abandoned dogs, as well as calls from law enforcement regarding dog-related incidents. We collaborate with rescue organizations to relocate dogs when their owners do not reclaim them or when an owner cannot be identified. Once the holding period has expired, we facilitate adoptions for dogs in our shelter that are deemed adoptable.
