Central Dakota Humane Society is a humane society located in Mandan, North Dakota, in Morton County, about 7 miles southeast of Bismarck, and one other animal shelter or rescue also serves Morton County. CDHS has been serving pets and people in the Bismarck-Mandan and central North Dakota area for more than 60 years, rescuing, housing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray, injured, abandoned, and abused animals. The shelter runs a Spay/Neuter Assistance Program offering coupons toward spaying and neutering, hosts Buddy's Bowl to help supply pet food to community members in need, offers waived adoption fees for older adopters through its Friends Fur Life program, and adopts out all kittens and cats on a 2-for-1 basis. It also educates the community about pet care and volunteerism through school visits, shelter tours, and service group presentations, funding its work through donations, memberships, fundraisers, events, and grants.

Adoption process

Prospective adopters must visit and interact with the pet (one visit for cats, at least two for dogs with photo ID and 20+ minutes), then complete a Pre-Adoption Application that is reviewed by staff (up to seven business days), and if approved, sign an Adoption Contract; adopters must be at least 18 and independent, and only cash or credit card is accepted for fees.
