Humane Society of Calaveras County in San Andreas, CA
The Humane Society of Calaveras County is a nonprofit, no-kill animal shelter located in San Andreas, California, in Calaveras County, about 50 miles northwest of Sacramento. Operating as the Calaveras Humane Society (CHS), its mission is to promote an excellent quality of life for the companion animals of the region, caring for animals both at its Animal Adoption Center, which opened in 2019, and through a network of volunteer foster homes. As a 501(c)(3) organization, CHS relies on community donations and volunteers—including foster families and shelter, store, and office helpers—to keep its operations running, while also offering services such as spay/neuter vouchers, a pet food bank, and programs for veterans and senior citizens.
