Animal Compassion Network is a no-kill, non-profit animal rescue organization based in Skyland, North Carolina, in Buncombe County, where 11 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. Founded in 1999, it relies on the work of volunteers and foster homes to place cats and dogs into loving, permanent homes, having helped nearly 2,500 animals find homes since its founding. As the largest no-kill rescue organization in Western North Carolina, it also supports spay/neuter efforts and operates the Betty Fund to further its mission. The shelter sits about 45 miles south of Greenville, South Carolina.
