Adoption Process

To begin the adoption process, first view all available animals by visiting our Adopets page, which is regularly updated as new animals become available. Adopets is a secure third-party site that hosts our pet profiles and application process. Next, click on the photos of the animals to read their profiles. This will provide essential information about each animal’s personality traits, health or behavioral needs, and compatibility with other pets or children. Understanding these details will help you find a suitable match based on your lifestyle and preferences. Once you find an animal you wish to adopt, click the “Adopt Me” button on the profile. Adopets will guide you in creating an account and filling out the application, which typically takes 10 to 15 minutes. Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee or reserve an animal. It is the first step in a process that includes submission, approval, a meet-and-greet, a contract, and payment. Applications are processed in the order they are received, and each animal may receive up to three applications before being removed from the site. An application is considered approved only after an adoption counselor contacts you to schedule an appointment. There are no fees or deposits required to apply; the adoption fee is paid upon finalizing the adoption. If you are interested in more than one animal, you can click the “Adopt Me” button on each additional animal's profile. You will not need to fill out a new application; your existing application will be added to the new pet's queue. You may have active applications for up to three pets at a time and can withdraw applications or submit new ones at any time. After applying, check for updates on your application status. There may be one or two applications ahead of yours for the animal you selected. Applications are reviewed in the order they are received, and you will be contacted if earlier applicants do not proceed with the adoption. An adoption counselor will call you in the order of your application submission to discuss your application and the animal, which will take about 15 minutes. This conversation ensures that the animal remains a good match and allows you to ask any questions. If your application is approved, a meet-and-greet appointment will be scheduled where you can interact with the animal to confirm if it is a suitable match. If you already have a dog at home, a meet-and-greet with both dogs will also take place during this appointment. If you find that the animal is not a good fit, we can introduce you to other available animals. If no other matches are available at that time, we encourage you to keep checking our site for new arrivals. If the meet-and-greet is successful, you can take your new pet home the same day. You will complete the adoption contract with a staff member, pay the adoption fee listed on the animal's profile, and receive any available medical records for your new pet. If you have concerns about same-day adoption, please discuss them with the adoption counselor beforehand. Congratulations on welcoming your new best friend into your home! We would love to see photos and updates from you, and we will share your adoption photo on our social media later that week.
