The Tompkins County SPCA is a humane society located in Ithaca, New York, about 40 miles north of Syracuse, and is one of two animal shelters or rescues serving Tompkins County. Founded in 1902, it operates as a no-kill shelter dedicated to protecting companion animals, preventing cruelty and overpopulation, and promoting responsible pet stewardship through education, counseling, and training. Each year the shelter takes in and finds new homes for close to 2,000 animals, with its staff and more than 250 annual volunteers caring for, rehabilitating, and socializing dogs, cats, and other companion animals until they're adopted. The organization also runs a low-cost public spay and neuter clinic and free rabies clinics for the community.
