The Shelter Connection is an all-volunteer, nonprofit animal shelter based in Greenvale, New York, located in Nassau County alongside 24 other animal shelters and rescues, about 15 miles northwest of Yonkers, NY. Founded in 1999, the organization works in partnership with the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shelter in Port Washington, caring for unclaimed strays and surrendered dogs of all shapes, sizes, and ages. Volunteers are trained as adoption advisers and dog handlers, and the group's fundraising supports shelter improvement programs, a Mend-a-Paw initiative, and humane education, all aimed at finding each dog the home and family they deserve. The Shelter Connection also sponsors community efforts like the "Pavers for Paws" remembrance brick program and supports the town's Trap, Spay/Neuter, Release program for feral cats.
