About this shelter
New York Horse Rescue in Manorville, NY
New York Horse Rescue is an equine rescue based in Manorville, New York, in Suffolk County, about 30 miles northwest of Bridgeport, CT, and shares the county with 37 other animal shelters and rescues. It operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to preventing the inhumane slaughter of injured, abused, and unwanted horses, with a particular focus on rehabilitating and retraining Thoroughbred racehorses. The organization works from a 50-acre farm that serves as an interim home for horses before they are placed in qualified adoptive homes, and it partners with racetrack trainers and owners to find new homes and careers for unwanted horses. Run by board members active in the horse world, including racehorse owners and adopters, New York Horse Rescue relies on public donations to cover veterinary care, feed, and farrier work for the horses in its care.
