The Montgomery County SPCA is a humane society located in Amsterdam, New York, in Montgomery County, about 30 miles southeast of Albany. Founded in 1904, it has provided protection, care, and shelter to homeless, neglected, abandoned, and abused animals in the county for over a century, and it does not euthanize animals for space—every animal stays as long as it takes to find an appropriate, loving home. As an independent not-for-profit, the shelter relies on donations and modest adoption fees to care for hundreds of animals each year while also promoting spay/neuter programs and responsible pet care in the community.
