Long Island Golden Retriever Rescue, Inc. (LIGRR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Plainview, New York, in Nassau County, roughly 20 miles north of Stamford, CT, and one of 24 other animal shelters or rescues located in Nassau County. Run entirely by volunteers, LIGRR is dedicated to improving the lives of Golden Retrievers who are neglected, abused, or abandoned, and also assists owners who can no longer care for their dog. Its mission is to provide veterinary care and loving adoptive homes for any Golden in need, from puppies to seniors, and every dog leaves the program fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and heartworm- and fecal-tested. Since 1995 the organization has tracked and grown its rescue efforts year by year, relying on donations, fundraising events, and volunteer-run programs to sustain its work.
