Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center

Little Shelter is a nonprofit animal rescue organization dedicated to rescuing abused and abandoned animals. We take in animals from the streets and those at risk of euthanasia in municipal pounds. Our mission is to provide a safe, caring, and nurturing environment for these animals while they await loving adoptive homes. We carefully screen all prospective adopters to ensure successful placements. At Little Shelter, no animal is ever euthanized unless they are incurably ill. We believe in the importance of spaying and neutering. All of our animals are spayed or neutered as soon as it is medically appropriate. The minimal adoption donation covers all medical procedures performed on the adopted animal, including spaying and neutering. Located on six acres in Huntington, Long Island, just 30 minutes east of New York City, Little Shelter features six buildings, two kennels with outdoor runs, a large communal cattery with individual rooms for nursing mothers, an isolation and medical building, and a five-room house for office and administrative use. We typically provide temporary shelter for over 300 animals at any given time. Last year, we successfully placed over 600 dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies into loving homes.
