Adoption Process

Prospective adopters consider readiness, meet the cats, submit a signed application (18+), undergo review and rental verification, sign an adoption contract (indoor-only, no declawing), pay an $80 adoption fee, and pick up the cat with a carrier.

Hope for Cats, Inc. is a nonprofit, volunteer-run cat rescue based in North Boston, New York, about 8 miles north of Buffalo, in Erie County, where 23 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. Cats are cared for at Jake's Place Shelter & Adoption Center, where many arrive timid or scared and are given time, patience, and socialization before being placed in forever homes. The organization receives no federal or state funding, relying instead on fundraising events, adoption fees, foundation grants, and private donations. Beyond adoption, Hope for Cats invites supporters to get involved through volunteering, sponsoring, and donating to help fulfill its mission on behalf of cats in need.
