Colonie Animal Control in Latham, NY
Colonie Animal Control is located in Latham, New York, in Albany County, about 6 miles south of Albany, and is one of 10 animal shelters and rescues serving Albany County. Operating under Article 7 of the New York State Agriculture and Markets Law and Chapter 79 of the Town of Colonie Code, its purpose is to enforce state and local animal laws while promoting the health, safety, and welfare of Town of Colonie residents. Its philosophy centers on removing animals in a safe and humane manner, with officers first explaining local and state laws to the public before enforcement becomes necessary. The department handles impoundment, cruelty investigations, animal bite and rabies cases, and wildlife removal, working closely with the Latham Animal Hospital and the Mohawk and Hudson River Humane Society to house and reunite stray and found dogs and cats with their owners.
