About this shelter

Friends for Pets Foundation in Los Angeles, CA

Friends for Pets Foundation is an animal shelter located in Los Angeles, California, roughly 15 miles southeast of the city, within Los Angeles County, home to 124 other animal shelters and rescues. Founded by Diane Monahan, Friends for Pets rescued and rehomed more than 4,500 dogs over 35 years, focusing on Weimaraners along with Golden Retrievers, Dalmatians, and Labradors that had been abused or abandoned. The organization operated as a no-kill facility, giving special attention to senior and disabled dogs through programs like the Yeager Fund. After closing its rescue facility, the foundation transitioned to providing veterinary grants of up to $50,000 to other nonprofit dog rescue organizations across the U.S., continuing its original mission of helping dogs that are abandoned, mistreated, neglected, or left in pounds.
