Adoption Process

Prospective adopters attend an adoption clinic, fill out an application, and are interviewed by an adoption assistant in a process taking 30 minutes to 1 hour; a home visit is required, and adopted animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated before going home.

New Mexico Animal Friends (NMAF) is an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue organization located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in Bernalillo County, where 25 other animal shelters and rescues also operate. NMAF saves homeless dogs and cats and places them into loving homes through a network of foster homes rather than a physical shelter facility, holding regular dog and cat adoption clinics at local PetSmart and Petco stores. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit, and it emphasizes the quality of its adoptions rather than the number of animals placed. Situated about 3 miles northeast of Albuquerque, NMAF relies on volunteers and fosters to care for animals until they find their forever homes.
