About this shelter
People For Animals in Hillside, NJ
People For Animals is an animal shelter located in Hillside, Union County, New Jersey, about 3 miles southeast of Elizabeth, and one of 14 other animal shelters or rescues found in Union County. The organization operates three clinic locations across New Jersey—Hillside, Robbinsville, and Millville—providing compassionate veterinary care to treasured pets and homeless animals in need. Its programs include spay/neuter and Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) services, microchipping, pet food and supply pantries, humane education for youth, public policy advocacy, and a Whole Families Program in which an on-staff social worker helps pet owners in crisis keep their animals rather than surrender them. In 2025 alone, PFA served over 40,000 animals across its three clinics, performed nearly 24,000 spay/neuter surgeries, and helped keep 343 pets with their families through crisis support.
